askteboothLast night, during the Philadelphia Phillies baseball game, I was connected to social media using Twitter. During the game, Dominic Brown of the Phillies hit a home run. The home run was his 17th this season and 9th home run in 10 games. I had my tweet read on the TV Air waves.

Should Communities Welcome New Members and FollowersLarge volume communities and social networks who get hundreds or thousands of new followers a day have to resort to methods like a welcome letter to introduce to members to the community for out reach.  Yes, Social Media and Community Managers should try to welcome all new members and followers. Using these methods will greatly enhance your community and network of followers.

I recently interviewed for a Social Media Community Manager position at a great company. As part of the process, I had to fill out a questionnaire. Here is one of the questions I answered.

"Name three companies that are blowing up social media and identify what their strategies are, and why they are successful. Is there anything they could do to improve?"

Social Media BroadcastingI found myself with a dilemma while owning this blog. I needed to keep my older content relevant so people can read some of my favorite articles that I have written. I found the best way to keep your content from aging and appealing to your new followers on social media is to use tools for broadcasting.

Rebecca and Ryan are two single adults who later became a couple of acquaintances. They both lived in the middle of one of the boroughs in New York city.  Rebecca had a tattoo of hash-tag  on the small of her back. Rebecca often dressed in seductive clothing with her tattoo visible to see who would tweet the hash tag.  As they were frequent riders of the subway, they often noticed one another but never really knew each other beyond being an acquaintance or subway buddies on the ride to and from the city for work.

Your Shiney New Social Media LicenseI recently read a few blog articles that dealt with the pros/cons of age as a reason not to employ someone in social media. I decided instead of using age as a medium,we should perhaps require a government issued license instead to prevent social media stupidity and require education.

Large herd of CattleToo many times and too often members of a community are often forgotten for the who and the what they are. The members of your community are your customers. These members are often directed where to go repeatedly. Your customers are your stake holders who have invested time, money in to your product, and service because they believe in it.

We have a big problem right now with Social Media. Every business wants to share their own information by just becoming a broadcaster for their clients, followers and customers. Every time information is posted there is often no one there to respond to the inquiries whether it is a question or comment. Sadly, it has become common place to ignore your base with this misuse of social media in all types of platforms and settings

Let's face it, we live in a social age of technology where we spend more time on social media than with most of the people in our everyday lives. It is just the way the internet has evolved to run our lives in the “always connected” world. We are establishing different types of friendships with new people we meet on the Internet.

I love twitter and like everyone else I want more followers for my social network. Everyday, I can get any random number of people clicking the follow button on my profile or from my blog website. In the past month or so, I have noticed many new people misusing twitter to get followers. I am not sure if it is because I am becoming more popular or not.

Hashtags are pretty popular right now because of Twitter. Hashtags are a form of meta data that allow searching for the same phrase. Twitter uses the “#” symbol to organize, index, and separate messages called tweets. Tweets are the messages we post on Twitter. Twitter has started an amazing trend where we can use any common word or phase as hashtag by adding the “#” symbol in front of the word or phrase.

I am continuing my blog series on Twitter with this article. Everyone likes to gain new followers. I love to meet new people and add them to my follower list. I will always add you back on my Twitter if I believe you can be a future friend, networker, or content follower.  I don’t like people using and abusing my generosity of the Twitter friendship.

A Tweet-a-Thon is a campaign. This campaign can raise awareness for a cause or an event on Twitter. They normally last over a set period of time from a few hours to a few days. It is very important to have a schedule of content that is highly interactive for your followers

Twitter is a very popular in social media today. The service allows us to share our world in tweets at 140 characters per post. New people are registering daily on the site but they aren’t setting up their accounts properly to get people they follow to follow back. I thought I would write a short blog article of common mistakes people continue to do on Twitter. If you would like to people to follow you back, please make some simple changes.

New CokeEvery community manager dreams that their community will be all sunshine and roses. However, that is rarely the case. Every player always has an opinion. When the community manager shares information, no one person consistently shares the same opinion on the topics. Everyone enjoys their game or community with various degrees of passion. Creating change can cause positive or negative feedback response. The result can cause a feeding frenzy for firestorm that can unleash hell on the community. Everyone wants their opinion to matter and to be heard. Its up to the community manager to convey the information in the most positive way.

I participated in a weekly twitter #cmgrchat yesterday. The topic covered contests for communities. I brought up how other people use twitter for contests using Twitter and specifically ReTweets. I must of hit an inner rage button and rightfully so. I was messaged with negative responses. Most people don’t like contests that don’t have a real chance in winning or just continue spam your time lines or hash tags with fake advertising without mercy. I am not sure of the metrics that show users gains or lost for using any of these methods. This is just my thoughts.

Here is a few twitter contests that I dislike the most.

1) The contest where you have to be the 100th re tweeter to win something. While I'm not against the idea if its a very short number, but come on the 100th? You could be waiting a week if the community is slow and inactive and if its active and fast...
